KEHA Members Attend National Volunteer Outreach Network Meeting


The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association was well represented at the 2017 National Volunteer Outreach Network (NVON) meeting in Raleigh, NC with 21 attendees.  The current NVON President is Linda Kaletch, from Wickliffe, KY whose 3-year theme is "Learning, Leading, Serving".  Rita Bloom, from Danville, KY is serving as secretary for NVON thru 2019.

Members of the KEHA Board in attendance included:

Marlene and Leoni represented KEHA as voting delegates, and Marlene serves as a member of the NVON Water Around the World Project Committee.

The conference theme was "Lifelong Learning-New Ideas and Knowledge for a Newer You!" Learning Sessions included: The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, Showcasing your Project-Arkansas EHC, Volunteering A-Z, Feeling Grateful, Brain Power, Disaster Prepardness, Master FCS Volunteer Program, Steps to Resiliency, Human Trafficking Awareness and more. KEHA President Marlene McComas and Shelby County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences Education Sheila Fawbush taught Plate it Up, Kentucky Proud, emphasizing the use of locally grown produce in nutritious meals.

Attendees enjoyed outstanding speakers, including Elaine Marshall, North Carolina Secretary of State; Dr. Carolyn Dunn, Professor and Department Head, Department of Youth, Family and Consumer Sciences at North Carolina State University; and D. G. Martin, local radio personality. Spouse and friend tours visited the U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum and the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library. Entertainment by the Waccamaw Siouan Native Americans and Singer Erica Jones provided enjoyment for all attendees. Everyone appreciated the invitation by the Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education to attend the 2018 NVON to be held July 16-18 in Milwaukee.
